INSTRUCTIONS

  • Overview

Clear polymer dispersion for filling cracks and joints on sanded parquet. Extremely high filling power, a short drying time and good sanding properties create a quality product. Osmo Wood Putty is combined with sanding dust, and therefore it offers the advantage in colour matching the subsurface.

  • Methods of Application

Before applying, stir putty in packaging well so that any sediment is mixed in.

By adding sanding dust, if possible from the same type of wood with a grain size of 80-120, mix into thick paste (approx. 15 % weight increase by adding sanding dust). The right paste consistency is important for a flawless application.

If it is too thick, there is insufficient adhesion to the sides of the joint and putty will be removed while sanding. If the paste is too thin, it leaves behind unfilled holes.

Fibrous sanding dust (especially from tropical wood species) can lead to bad mixing properties and this can prevent joints from being filled. In this case, please reduce the amount of sanding dust. We recommend stirring sanding dust and putty into a homogenous paste in a separate container.

Fill flooring diagonally with a rust-free double blade scraper and at the same time press wood putty firmly into joints. Repeat process if necessary. After 30 – 60 minutes the dried paste can be coarsely (grit P80) and afterwards finely (grit P100 – 120) sanded so that no wood putty is left on the surface of the parquet.

Most of the time, fine sanding with P100 – 120 is enough. Afterwards treatment with various Osmo oilwax finishes can be carried out.

Any dirt or stains left behind by Osmo Wood Putty can be cleaned quickly with water.

Note: As wood putty mixture and processing strongly depends on the wood species and on the sanding dust, a trial application is absolutely necessary!

Do not fill joints in sprung or plankwood flooring!

  • Surface Preparation

Wooden flooring must be sanded down to the raw wood surface and must be free of oils, fat and other dirt. The final sanding work before filling with Osmo Wood Putty should be carried out with a belt sander (e.g. P80) and an edge sander P60. Thoroughly vacuum the surface before applying putty.

Note: Do not add sanding dust with remnants of old coating to Osmo Wood Putty. Only use clean sanding dust for this purpose.

  • Note

Even during the application of wood putty with a low content of hazardous materials, normal safety measures are to be taken. Wear a dust mask when dust develops. Use absolutely rust-free tools. While sand-ing, ensure that no small old nails or similar objects are sanded so that they do not end up in sanding dust. Should this happen, rust spots may appear on the surface. Any other applications other than those stated in our technical description need our explicit approval. Follow technical information of other laying materials! Relevant trade norms and guidelines are to be observed.
